Obese People Lose Weight At High Altitudes
The next craze in weight loss may involve moving to the top of a mountain. In a recent study, obese individuals who spent time at a mountain facility at high altitudes lost weight without going on a diet. And they kept the pounds off for at least four weeks once they returned to normal altitudes. Researchers suspect part of the weight loss can be attributed to the thin air, which may have decreased participants’ appetites and increased their metabolism. While at high altitudes, the obese subjects also showed an increase in levels of leptin, a hormone that can make one feel full. But don’t move to the mountains just yet. The findings are preliminary and were only tested in a very small number of people.

You Can Now Dunk Or Squeeze Your Ketchup
For decades there was only one way to use a ketchup packet, and it was messy. Now, fast-food lovers have a choice – the traditional squeeze-play or the option to dunk. The new ketchup pack, unveiled yesterday by Heinz, is shaped like a shallow cup. The top can be peeled back for dipping, or the end can be torn off for squeezing. It holds three times as much ketchup as a traditional packet. Heinz said it struggled for years to develop a container that lets fast-food junkies dip or squeeze, and to produce it at a cost acceptable to restaurants and customers alike. Designers discovered that what works at the table doesn’t necessarily work in the car. So two years ago, Heinz bought a used minivan for the design team so they could give their ideas a real-world road test. It’s amazing the high-tech effort that goes into the little things we take for granted every day. Heinz sells more than 11 billion ketchup packets every year. They hope the new packaging becomes as common as the ones Americans are so used to.
