WAKE UP FOODS!
Posted 6/8/2010 8:10:00 AM
Ever have a morning where you just feel like you're dragging yourself around?  There are some foods that might help.  Elizabeth Somer, dietician and author of Eat Your Way to Happiness, was on Kathie Lee and Hoda yesterday talking about some little boosts:

1.  Coffee is number one, but keep it light or you'll feel worse.
2.  Smoke salmon.  Omega 3's are great for memory, and a little in your omelet is awesome
3.  A little natural sugar can help...try watermelon or blueberries.
4.  Carbs are good for your brain, and you're low on them first thing in the morning.  Just don't go all-carb, though.  Cook your oatmeal with milk or soymilk.  Or, just soak some long-cooking oats overnight in milk, toss with a few walnuts and raisins the next morning and you have an instant breakfast!
5.  Tray a little zingy ginger in your smoothie or tobasco sauce on your eggs.
6.  Pop and altoids mint or some red hots before you hit the snooze button.  Wake up your mouth, and it might be easier to wake up the body.

Ice water is another good wake-up tip, but if it doesn't work internally, why not try it externally.  You'll be less likely to want to go back to sleep after a cold shower!
