I love when I run across a bunch of homemade beauty treatments. But, if you’re like me, you probably think the more expensive it is, the better it works. Not necessarily. Here are a few things you can do at home cheaply to improve your skin from www.wholeliving.com:
1. Oatmeal has a soluble fiber in it that creates a thin, film on the surface of your skin that helps keep in moisture. It’s also soothing and anti-inflammatory. Take a handful of whole oats and place in a clean washcloth and tie closed with a rubber band. Then dip it in a sinkful of warm water and squeeze the bag four or five times. Once the water is cloudy, splash it on your face and let it air-dry.
2. Walnuts make for a great exfoliant. Blend ¼ cup of shelled walnuts with ½ cup of olive oil and a tablespoon of honey in a food processor set on a slow speed. What you’ll end up with is a homemade scrub you can use on your hands or feet. Work it into the skin for a few minutes, then rinse with warm water. The walnuts gently scrub, the olive oil adds moisture, and the honey seals in the moisture.
3. The acid in oranges works to loosen dead skin cells. Cut a fresh orange in half and squeeze the juice of one half into a bowl. Add ¼ cup of granulated sugar and ¼ cup of olive oil and blend. Then, rub the exposed side of the other orange half over your knees, elbows, heels and any other dry spots. Then, rub the sugar mixture to slough off dead skin. Rinse with warm water and pat skin dry.
